Marathon de Banská Bystrica

The Marathon de Banská Bystrica in Slovakia stands out for its unusual timing: it is the only evening marathon in Central Europe, starting at dusk, with music zones set up along the course to create a staged soundtrack all the way round. The 2027 edition takes place on 5 June.

Several distances are on offer: the full marathon (42.2 km), the half marathon (21.1 km), 10 km and 5 km races, relays and children's races. The route follows flat, fast loops on streets closed to traffic, with a race village near the Europa SC centre. The night-time lights and the support of local residents give the event a very different feel from a classic daytime marathon, in a town nestled between the Greater Fatra and Kremnica mountains.
