Little Duck 50k

Little Duck 50k is run in Windham, Maine, on October 18, 2026. Two trail formats are on offer: a 50K (31 miles) trail race and a 10K trail race. Start times had not been published at the time of writing, so check with the organizer as the date approaches. The mid-October timing lines up with fall conditions in southern Maine, typically cool and good for long efforts.

The 50K works well as a first ultra or as an end-of-season target after a summer of trail miles. A 16-week plan with a weekly long run building to 20 to 24 miles, plus some hiking on climbs, will cover most of what you need. Runners who prefer a shorter day can take on the 10K, which is short enough to race hard or to share with a partner who is newer to trails. Either way, bring shoes with grip, since fall leaves can hide roots and rocks.
