About

The Laurel Memorial Run/Walk in Silver Creek honors people with Down syndrome and other developmental disabilities. On July 17, 2027, it offers a 5K (3.1 miles) run, an 8K (5 miles) run at 9:00 a.m., a combined 5K and 8K (8.1 miles / 13 km), a 5K Walk for Disability Awareness and a 1K Fun Walk, with all events other than the 8K starting at 8:30 a.m.

This annual event also includes a relay alongside its running and walking options. Participants can register in person or virtually, and proceeds go to Filling the Gap, Inc. The funds help improve the services offered by the Resource Center, including employment opportunities and dental care for people with disabilities.

Created in memory of Laurel Hotelling, the event shows what people can achieve when given a chance and promotes disability advocacy and community inclusion.
