Hotter'N Hell Hundred

The Hotter'N Hell Hundred in Wichita Falls, Texas, is best known for its signature 100-mile (about 160 km) ride on August 29, 2027, part of a weekend (August 28–29) that also features other road and gravel cycling routes, a mountain bike race and trail runs, including a 10K.

• Road cycling: 27 miles, 100 miles and 261 km, August 29 at 7:05 a.m.
• Gravel: 27, 42 and 60 miles, August 29 at 7:05 a.m.
• Mountain bike: 11.5 miles, August 28 at 8:00 a.m.
• Trail running: Long Trail Run (12 miles / 19.3 km) and 10K trail runs

The route profile is flat, but the main difficulty is the heat, with temperatures approaching 104°F (40°C) and no shade across the wide plains of West Texas. A highlight of the route runs past Sheppard Air Force Base, where Air Force personnel cheer participants on. Dating back to the 1980s, the event relies on a large network of volunteers who hand out ice-cold towels, fresh fruit and pickle juice to replace the sodium lost in the heat. It is as much a test of heat management as of pure endurance.
