About

The Hellbender 5k & Half Marathon takes place in Weiser State Forest, Pennsylvania (Ralpho Township), on August 22, 2027, with two out-and-back courses starting from the Route 54 parking lot near Bear Gap: a half marathon (13.1 miles / 21.1 km) at 8:00 a.m. and a 5K at 8:30 a.m. Both are open to road and trail runners alike.

The event raises money for water conservation work in the Roaring Creek watershed, benefiting the RCVCA. Its name honors the hellbender salamander, a symbol of local wildlife threatened by development. A T-shirt, finisher's medal and post-race meal are included.
