Hearts of Joy Half Marathon

The Hearts of Joy Half Marathon takes place in Grand Blanc, Michigan, in early February. The 13.1-mile race starts at 11:11 a.m. and covers the rolling hills of the Genesee County area, with natural scenery along the way.

Organizers pitch it to runners chasing a personal record as well as those who simply want a pleasant day out with friends or family, combining the enjoyment of running with the outdoors. Winter in mid-Michigan is cold, and hills can be icy or snow-packed, so plan for traction and dress in moisture-wicking layers topped with a wind shell. The late-morning start gives you a chance to warm up when the temperature is a bit higher than at dawn.
