About

Gopher Weedon Trail Run is held in St. Petersburg, Florida on October 24, 2026. One event is on the schedule: an 8K trail run, about 5 miles, starting at 8:00 a.m. The name points to Weedon Island as the setting.

Trail racing changes what a distance asks of you. Five miles off-road takes longer than five miles on pavement at the same effort, so run by feel rather than by watch and stop comparing splits with your road times. Shoes with real grip and a slightly shortened stride help on soft or uneven ground. If you are training for this specifically, get at least one run a week onto trails — road fitness carries over, but ankle stability and confidence in your footing only come from time on the surface itself.
