About
Gila 100 - Silver City, NM takes place in Silver City, New Mexico, on October 17, 2026, organized by Gila Endurance Runs. Two trail ultras are offered: the 100-mile race starts at 6 a.m. and the 50-mile (80.5 km) follows at 7 a.m., in the Gila country of southwestern New Mexico.
Two factors shape this one: altitude and remoteness. Silver City sits near 6,000 feet and the surrounding terrain climbs from there, so runners arriving from sea level should plan on racing by effort and accept slower splits than their training suggests. Self-sufficiency between aid stations matters more here than at a crowded road race. The 50-mile suits someone with a 50K behind them who wants a first long mountain day, while the 100-mile calls for a 20-week build and a rehearsed plan for the overnight hours.
