About

The Fountainhead Half Marathon and 10K takes place in Fairfax Station, Virginia, at Fountainhead Regional Park in Fairfax County, in early May. The half marathon (13.1 miles) starts at 8:00 a.m. and the 10K, which measures about 6.9 miles on the listing, follows at 8:20. Both are described as challenging and scenic, with sections of the Bull Run-Occoquan Trail and some tough climbs.

The park sits about half an hour from Washington, D.C., yet the trails feel secluded. The event partners with the local nonprofit Homestretch, and participants can support families in need through donations. With hills on the menu, a trail-style effort with shorter strides on the climbs and careful footing on the descents will serve you better than chasing a road pace.
