About
Fall Superior Trail Races are held in Lutsen, Minnesota, on September 11–12, 2026, on the Superior Hiking Trail. Three trail formats are offered: the Superior Sawtooth 100 Mile starts Friday, September 11, at 8:00 AM with about 21,000 feet of climbing; the Superior Trail 50 Mile starts Saturday at 8:15 AM with about 12,500 feet; and the Moose Mountain Marathon (26.2 miles) starts Saturday at 8:00 AM with about 5,500 feet of climbing.
These are rugged point-to-point style mountain-trail distances, not smooth running. The marathon suits trail runners with a few hilly races behind them, the 50-mile is a serious step up, and the 100-mile is a full night-and-day effort that demands prior ultra experience. Whatever the distance, spend your build on climbing and descending, hike the steep sections in training, and include back-to-back long runs to prepare your legs for hours of technical ground.
