Devil's Shadow Winter Trail Races

Devil's Shadow Winter Trail Races take place in Honeoye Falls, New York, on February 6, 2027, with three trail distances: a 50K (31 miles), a 25K (15.5 miles) and a 5-mile race. Start times are not published, so check with the organizer before you plan your morning around them.

Three distances that far apart mean three different races on the same ground. The 5-mile is a hard, honest winter effort you can enter off regular training. The 25K asks for a weekly long run of about 12 to 15 miles beforehand. The 50K is a genuine ultra, and in February the limiting factor is rarely fitness — it is footing, layering and keeping your fuel from freezing. Whichever you choose, run the first half by effort rather than by pace: a winter trail can add several minutes a mile without your legs working any harder.
