Devil on the Divide

Devil on the Divide is a trail race held in Empire, Colorado, on September 12, 2026. Two formats are offered: a 50K (31 miles) and a 22K (about 13.7 miles). As the name suggests, the event is set around the Continental Divide, and Empire sits high in the Colorado Rockies, so altitude is part of the challenge at either distance.

Running at high elevation changes everything about pacing, and even fit sea-level runners should expect to move slower than usual. The 22K is a strong option for runners who want a serious mountain outing at a half-marathon-length distance, while the 50K is an ambitious first ultra best taken on by those who train on climbs. Arrive a few days early if you can, plan your effort by feel rather than pace, and make sustained uphill hiking a regular part of your build.
