The Clear Creek Half Marathon and 5K takes place in Clear Creek Canyon, Utah, in mid-May. The half marathon (13.1 miles) starts at 7:00 a.m. at the top of the canyon and runs downhill to the finish, while the 5K and a 10K both leave at 7:30. The event is located about 30 miles south of Richfield, reached by exit 7 on Interstate 70.
The scenic route follows a beautiful creek and winds between the steep canyon cliffs. Along the way, runners pass Fremont Indian State Park, which holds historic and cultural sites such as ancient rock art and unusual rock formations. A net-downhill course can be fast but is hard on the quads, so train with some downhill running and start the descent under control.
