About
Chupacabra 50 takes place in Quanah, in northern Texas, on May 2, 2027, and spreads across a wide range of distances: 5K, 9 kilometers (5.6 miles), 20 kilometers (12.4 miles), 53 kilometers (33 miles), and 80 kilometers, the 50 miles that give the event its name. The longer formats are true ultra distances, run on rough, wild ground in a rural corner of the state, and they test endurance more than leg speed.
Pick your distance honestly. The 5K and the 9K are approachable on a normal running routine, the 20K asks for a long run of around 10 miles in your recent weeks, and the 53K and 80K need a dedicated block of roughly 16 to 20 weeks with back-to-back long runs on the weekend. For anything beyond the 20K, rehearse your nutrition and carry your own water between aid points, and go into the first hours slower than feels natural. No start times are listed yet.
