About

Backcountry Rise offers a 50K, a 20-miler and a trail half marathon near Toutle, in the Mount Margaret backcountry north of Mount St. Helens National Volcanic Monument. Remote loops with steep climbs deliver views of the Cascade ridgelines.

  • 50K (31 miles): August 28, 2027, at 7:00 a.m.
  • Half-Marathon (13.1 miles / 21.1 km): August 28, 2027, at 9:00 a.m.
  • 20-Miler (32.2 km): August 29, 2027, at 8:00 a.m.

The course passes alpine lakes and creeks and crosses habitat for mountain goats, elk, deer, bears, cougars and birds of prey. The event takes place on the unceded traditional lands of the Cowlitz people, whose sustainable stewardship of the land is honored.
