About
B.I.R.R. Turkey Trot 5K is held in Hilo, Hawaii, on Thanksgiving Day, November 26, 2026, with a 7:30 a.m. start at Bay Front Park. This annual charity run covers the 5K distance (3.1 miles) and is open to all ages. Participation is free; instead of an entry fee, you are encouraged to bring food donations for the Hilo food bank and the Malia Puka O Kalani Food Pantry.
A free, community-minded 5K is a low-pressure way to start the holiday, whether you jog it with family or use it as a quick, hard effort. If you are new to running, four to six weeks of run-walk sessions three times a week will get you comfortably through 3.1 miles. If you train regularly, the early start makes this a nice tempo run: warm up for ten minutes beforehand, settle into a pace you can hold, and finish strong. Remember to pack your food donation along with your running shoes.
