About
The AJ Bell Great South Run takes place on 18 October 2026 in Portsmouth. There is a single race on the programme: a ten-mile road race (16.1 km).
Ten miles is a British speciality well worth trying: too long to run at 10K pace and too short to demand the caution of a half marathon, it is raced close to threshold for an hour to an hour and a half depending on ability. It is a great format for improving, because it forces you to find the exact limit beyond which your pace no longer holds. In training, 15 to 20 minutes at tempo, or three sets of ten minutes hard with short recoveries, are precisely the right preparation, along with a weekly long run of 15 to 18 km.
