VIRR Turkey Trot

VIRR Turkey Trot is a Thanksgiving morning race in Kula, Hawaii, held on November 26, 2026. There is a single format, a 5K run / walk (3.1 miles), and it goes off early, at 7:30 a.m. The event is put on by the Valley Isle Road Runners, the local running club.

Runners and walkers share the same start, so you can take the 3.1 miles however you like: a hard effort before the rest of the holiday, or an easy outing alongside family. If you plan to race it, a few weeks of steady running with one weekly session of shorter repetitions, something like six by 400 meters, is all the preparation a 5K really needs. The 7:30 a.m. gun is early enough that you should build in extra time to wake up, jog fifteen minutes beforehand, and run a couple of strides so the first mile does not catch you flat. You will be back home long before the meal.
