TARC Winter Classic

TARC Winter Classic is held in Stoneham, Massachusetts, on December 5, 2026, organized by the Trail Animals Running Club. Three trail distances are offered: a 40-mile, a 32-mile and an 8-mile. The distances suggest a looped format, with the longer options stacking repeats of the same course, which keeps aid and drop bags close at hand all day.

Early December in eastern Massachusetts can hand you anything from bare dirt to ice, so traction devices and a change of gloves belong in your bag whatever you enter. The 8-mile is a genuine option for a first winter trail race. The 32- and 40-mile events are more about sustained management than speed: eat every loop, change socks if your feet get wet, and accept that winter footing makes every mile cost more than it would in July.
