Range of Light Trail Races

Range of Light Trail Races are held in Bishop, California, on October 24, 2026. Four trail distances go off in staggered waves: the 50K (31 miles) at 6:45 AM, the 33K (about 20.5 miles) at 7:00 AM, the 10K at 8:00 AM, and the 5K at 9:00 AM. The organizer's website points to Inyo SAR, the county search and rescue team. Bishop sits in the Owens Valley at the foot of the Eastern Sierra, and the event name borrows John Muir's nickname for the range.

Altitude and dry air are the main factors to plan for: Bishop itself is above 4,000 feet, and pacing should be by effort rather than by sea-level splits. The 50K is a strong choice if you want a high-desert ultra without the logistics of a mountain race, and a 16-week build with some hill work will prepare you. The 33K is a rare and interesting distance, roughly a half marathon and a half. The 10K and 5K make it easy for family members to join in later in the morning.
