How to choose your running race

1

Choose based on your level

Beginner? Start with a 5K or 10K. Regular runner? A half marathon is a great goal. Experienced? Marathon or trail depending on your preference.

2

Allow enough preparation time

10K: 6-8 weeks. Half marathon: 10-12 weeks. Marathon: 14-16 weeks. Long trail: 16-20 weeks. Don't register too late.

3

Check the course profile

A flat course is faster but monotonous. A hilly course is harder but more varied. Choose based on your goal (time vs enjoyment).

4

Consider the weather

Avoid summer marathons if you don't handle heat well. Spring and autumn races offer the best conditions.

5

Register early

Major races (Paris, Berlin, New York, UTMB) sell out months in advance. Some use lottery systems. Plan ahead.
